About

Meet the Photographer
In my early my twenties, I purchased my first digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, a Nikon D70s in Portland, Oregon while my family and I were in town visiting relatives. Before my SLR, I had what you call one of those "point and shoot" automatic cameras with 2.1 mega pixels and the capacity to fit about 16 photos on one memory card. Even before that I had a very basic film camera. Currently I am using a 28-200 mm Nikon lens with the option of a B+W haze filter and a B+W polarizer. I hope to work up to more equipment, such as a telephoto and macro lens.

It wasn't until I got my SLR that I really began to learn the art of photography. I am largely self-taught (I have never received any formal education) although I'm fortunate to have two experienced photographers, my dad and sister, who have guided me in technique and composition. Combine my creative eye, passion for the art of photography and my travels in different regions in the United States, I've been fortunate to grow my portfolio of photos from rural to urban landscapes and now I am interested in growing my portrait portfolio.

Currently my photos are not for sale, although at some point my dad, sister, and I would love to have a family photography business and sell our photos. For now, feel free to browse my photo blog and check out the photos in my growing portfolio, but please remember they are all copyrighted and property of JSimek Photography and cannot be used for any purpose without my explicit consent.

Thank you for visiting my JSimek Photography!
